Klique was formed in 1978 by Isaac and Deborah Suthers, a brother and sister duet.Two years later they were joined by Lawrence Whittington from Toledo, Ohio. After some recordings they decided to disband the group.In 1980 they began to audition for another group member.Soon,Howard Huntsberry joined the group.After 2 years of recording and searching for a recording contract they were signed by MCA records for a four album deal.
The first single was "Love's Dance",an up-temple dance track that burned up the charts.Their next single was " It's Winning Time",which was featured in the movie "Penitentary" with Leon Isaacs Kennedy.Klique is best known for The Jackie Wilson remake of " Stop Doggin Me Around " which went to number one on the R & B charts.It was produced by Thomas McClary of the Commodores.Klique toured with artist such as Rick James, Chaka Khan,Frankie Beverly And Maze, Jeffrey Osbourne, The Commodores, Midnight Star, The Gap Band,and Roger just to name a few.In 1985 Klique split up to pursue separate careers.Howard Huntsberry was seen in "La Bamba" playing the part of Jackie Wilson.He also was the voice singing Higher and Higher in the movie Ghostbusters.He has a son and daughter pursuing a career in music.Isaac Suthers continued to write and produce other artist such as Cherrelle, Miche'le, DeDe O'neal, Dante,"Twelve", St Valentine, a rock group, and his sister Deborah Suthers on their label D.E.I.Records.Isaac and Deborah did one of the first rap songs on ther label called "Waitin' for ya Genie",a tune about the effects of drugs on young adults.The record company canned it because they said rap would never make it.(HA HA).They continued to record their debut album with then unknown guitarist Russ Freeman of the group "The Rippingtons".This project is still in the wings. Meanwhile in the last 30 years Isaac has been writing and producing under his label DVG music with his son Donovan Suthers. He is currently working on his long awaited jazz album, ' FLY ME '.The future looks bright.
